FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS:

An international AVENI-Re / SCG-Re seminar was conducted in Libreville, Gabon

From September 25 to 29, 2017, the city of Libreville, Gabon hosted an international seminar on Fire and Explosion Hazards. Jointly organized by AVENI-RE (a Pan-African reinsurance company Headquartered in Abidjan) and SCG-RE, Gabonese Commercial Reinsurance Company. The purpose of this training was to get managers of insurance companies and administrative officers master the details related to the prevention of fires and explosions in order to implement good practices in the prevention of these risks in businesses. «Several accidents have caused losses both human, material and financial. And concerning the reduction of the frequency of occurrence of incidents and accidents, operators are required to systematically look for concrete risk reduction measures at their source, and the implementation of good prevention and management practices of risks. This, in order to optimize the financial resources of the State, so that the savings are strongly mobilized and that there is a better recovery of tax,», declared Edwige Betah Essoukou, Deputy Minister for the Economy of Gabon, in her opening word of the seminar. We can recall the explosion of Addax-Pretroleum or the burning of the National Assembly’s building, during the riots of August 31, 2016 in Gabon, with serious consequences on the economy and the society.

The seminar was moderated by El Hadj Seybatou AW, CEO of Aveni-Re and Dr Andrew Gwodock, Director and CEO of SCG-Re, with the collaboration of Marcel Kouamé (AVENI-Re’ Subscriber and assistant of Mr. Seybatou AW) and Philippe Tonangoye of TDP consulting firm. Between September 26 and 28,  Participants conducted some risk assessment visits on Gabon's steel mills and on a timber processing company both located in the special economic zone of Gabon (GSEZ), in order to establish a link between theory and practice. On September 29, 2017 a trip taken at the port of Owendo has completed the range of practical data on the prevention of fire and explosion hazards in companies.

With the award of the certificates and gifts in the Hall of Boulevard Hotel in the evening of September 29, 2017, the curtain fell on a training that went beyond strengthening actors’ technical capacities and was considered by Dr. Andrew Gwodock. Director and CEO of SCG-Re, as «a great illustration of South-South cooperation for the promotion of insurance markets in Africa».

Participants and their hosts separated in an overall satisfaction tone, with the hope that flame of cooperation AVENI-RE / SCG-Re, now on, is sustainably maintained for the best of Insurance in Africa.
